Elevation Utah in 2021

It is with great disappointment that I announce that official Elevation Utah 2021 events are cancelled.

We were simultaneously planning Elevation Utah while holding out hope that we would turn the corner on COVID-10 at the end of 2020. Unfortunately, we have not turned that corner.

I wanted nothing more than to gather with my friends and Elevation ski family this year in Utah. (Like everyone, I miss events. I miss mingling with friends. I miss dance floors.) Throughout this challenging time, we had always planned to produce reduced capacity and socially distanced events for 2021 in Park City. But as COVID has surged, capacities have been further reduced, ICUs are close to full, and some regions have gone back into Stay At Home orders. There is not a feasible way to produce the quality of the events you deserve while guaranteeing the health and safety of my staff, my talent, and the attendees of Elevation Utah.

We need to get through this pandemic and come out the other side. And I don’t want be a part of organizing an event that has the potential to spread COVID to the ski family I love, and beyond to our friends, families and neighbors – both at home and in Park City.

I plan to continue to produce Elevation for years to come. But if Elevation was a super spreader event, that negatively affected attendees or our families and friends, I would be heartbroken. Not only does gathering in groups affect those of us there, but we can bring back the virus to our hometowns to the people we care about.

I’m still a big proponent of skiing (and gay skiing) in 2021. Get on the slopes. Have a great time. We just shouldn’t get together in big groups inside of a bar or a nightclub until we turn that corner.

The ski resorts in Utah are still open for skiing, and many of our host Park City venues that love and support Elevation will be open at limited capacities. If you are heading to Park City, please support those venues by stopping by to have a drink or a meal. Those venues are Downstairs, OP Rockwell and The Cabin. They have each supported our big gay events for years, and we need to be there for them in return.

ELEVATION MAMMOTH. I still believe that we will be able to produce the Elevation Mammoth events in March. The events will be smaller and will look different, but with the ability to have more outdoor space, and some additional weeks to turn our numbers around on COVID, Mammoth is looking good. Lodging is actually booking up, so if you are considering Mammoth, now is the time to look at the host hotels.

COVID has now officially claimed one full year of Elevation events. Mammoth 2020 was cancelled on March 14th, as the mountain closed and the first lockdowns in California began. Let’s never do this again.

I want to be on a dance floor as soon as possible, with flashing lights and hundreds of you. We’ll get there sooner, if we support each other and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Tom Whitman
Founder, Elevation

About Us

Twelfth Annual Park City Gay Ski Week
For the past 18 years, Elevation Mammoth has taken place in Mammoth Lakes, California and quickly grew to be the 3rd largest gay ski week in North America, now bringing more than 2,500 people to the High Sierras each year.
When we decided to expand the Elevation brand to a new resort, Park City was at the top of the list from the very beginning. It is an amazing world-class resort. Park City has a multitude of venues for events, as well as great restaurants and hotels. Park City is easily accessible from anywhere in the country. You can be in downtown Park City a half hour after you land in Salt Lake City.
This is a weekend about serious fun, new and old friends, and a community coming together. So, in the spirit of Elevation, a tip for the weekend that I always give every year: Be friendly. Introduce yourself. The guy you meet one night will be the friend you ski with the next day. Most importantly, have fun. That's the reason we do this.
